Gov. Janet Mills has announced 64 farms and food processors across the state have been approved for a total of $19.3 million in grants under the Agriculture Infrastructure Investment Program.

Six farms and processors in Androscoggin, Oxford and Franklin counties will receive a total of $2.59 million.

The grants, from $41,669 to $500,000, average $301,217. They were distributed to a mix of businesses with different scales and types of production across all 16 counties.

The state said the program received over 850 applications requesting nearly $180 million, calling it “exceptionally competitive.”

Funds are anticipated to be released between Sept. 30 and Oct. 15.
