DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have old United States currency (paper money, not coins) dated 1864 and would like to get it appraised. Is there anyone in Sun Spots Land who could do it?

Thank you for all the assistance you give to our communities. — No name, no town

ANSWER: You will want to connect with a professional paper currency appraiser or dealer.

Compass Coins & Jewelry at 185 Webster St. in Lewiston can help you. The number is 240-9558. Give them a call to set up a time. And in Auburn, there is Republic Jewelry & Collectibles at 212 Center St. Give them a call at 240-9558.

American Rarities (https://americanrarities.com/sell-paper-currency-paper-money-values/ , 1-800-622-5680) provides an online option where you can email photos of your collection for their evaluation.

Stinson & Company (https://stinsonandcompany.com/coin-dealer-paper-money-buyer-maine.htm/, 885-1138) at 337 Forest Ave. in Portland can also provide this service. Business hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and you don’t need an appointment.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am a senior looking for a little assistance with budgeting and setting up accounts on the computer. I remember reading about an organization that can help me. Do you have it in the Rolodex? — No name, Minot

ANSWER: SeniorsPlus (https://seniorsplus.org/), in Lewiston, with satellite offices in Norway and Wilton, has a Money Minders program available to older adults. This is a free, confidential service provided by volunteers who help seniors figure out a budget, write checks to pay the bills (but not signing the checks), and balancing a checkbook. These volunteers have background checks and go through a training process. For more information, call SeniorsPlus at 794-4010 to speak to the Money Minder coordinator

The organization also provides other helpful services to area seniors and has a wealth of information and resources such as health care, companionship, exercise programs, nutrition, and much more. Call to see what they’re all about. I can’t recommend them enough.
