To the Editor:
My name is Payton Hastings. I am a lifelong resident of Maine, as well as a proud resident of Oxford County.
Let me tell you a little bit about my friend Michael Lance of Paris. Mike announced his decision to run for House District #79 back toward the beginning of the election season. Mike is a current member of the Paris Fire Department, a former teacher, and an employee at Bancroft.
Mike has a love for people and his community that can be seen in just a simple conversation with him. I haven’t the slightest doubt that Mike will represent us in a way that makes our voices heard in Augusta. He has the personal drive to do what needs to be done in order to fight to end the ever-increasing cost of electricity, deterioration of the education system, and further support for our state’s first responders.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
