100 Years Ago: 1923

The Auburn-Lewiston Kiwanis club members are especially favored today in having for the speaker D. Thomas Curtin, one of the famous war correspondents, representing the London Times. Mr. Curtin is now on a tour with the Redpath Chautauqua lecturing on the subject, “What is the Matter with Europe?” so the Kiwanis Club is pleased to have him with them this noon.

50 Years Ago: 1973

The City of Auburn is seeking applications for a secretarial position for the police department. Mrs. Cheryl Hanson is leaving the position to take on other employment. Applications for the vacancy can be obtained at the office of City Manager Bernard J. Murphy Jr., until Friday.

25 Years Ago: 1998

Phil House and Kendall Libby will present the final concert of the Monday evening series at 7:30 p.m. Monday at All Souls Chapel, Route 26. They will perform a program of show tunes for piano and organ. Proceeds will benefit the Poland Spring Preservation Society’s restoration of the Maine State Building and All Souls Chapel. Donations are $3.
