100 Years Ago: 1923

The Sunshine Society was invited to North New Portland, Wednesday, August 20, to an all day meeting with Mrs. Laura Gilman, one of the members who is staying there for the summer. Transportation was furnished for all who desired to go. The members had a picnic dinner.

50 Years Ago: 1973

Employees of the Marcotte Nursing Home are putting their efforts together and are planning a food sale to be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the reception room at the home on Friday. The proceeds will be used to benefit the residents of the home and anyone is invited to attend. Most of the items sold will be homemade and will be donated by the employees and friends and relatives of the residents. Some of the items are fudge, brownies, fancy cookies, cakes, breads, cupcakes and candy.

25 Years Ago: 1998

June Thompson was given special recognition for more than 51 years of playing the piano, beginning when she was 12. She played for the Auburn Church of the Nazarene from 1947 to 1968, South Lewiston Baptist Church from 1968 to 1978; then became a member of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church in Lewiston in 1978 and has continued to play for the church. She has played for more than 100 weddings. Thompson was presented a corsage and a gold watch in recognition of her years of service from pastor Mike Allen.
