100 Years Ago: 1923

City officials estimate that automobiles en route to the Harding funeral stretch out to a distance of 80 miles from Marion. Cars are running two and three abreast and there is not a break of more than ten feet for many miles. The caravan is being constantly augmented by cars from several directions, all converging on the Harding Highway to the West. Fifteen miles an hour is the speed limit.

50 Years Ago: 1973

Lewiston police were investigating the larceny of a three day old calf which occurred during the night in a rural area of Lewiston. Late last night Arthur Rioux of Chadbourne Road called police and told them that someone took the calf. The animal is valued at $900.

25 Years Ago: 1998

The Theater at Monmouth is presenting the August Children’s Show “Jack & The Beanstalk”. This unique adaptation of the classic children’s tale is full of gigantic fun and will delight audiences of all ages. Jack & The Beanstalk has been adapted for The Theater at Monmouth and directed by T.A.M. Artistic Director, Michael O’Brien. “Jack & The Beanstalk ” will be presented through Aug. 27 at 2 p.m. on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays Tickets are $7 for adults and $6 for children.
