100 Years Ago: 1923
The camp meeting at Empire Grove opened Saturday evening with good attendance. Nearly all of the cottages are now open.
Sunday morning Rev. A. Bean preached a fine sermon, and in the afternoon Rev. Forgrave of the Anti-Saloon League spoke on Federal Prohibitory Law, what it has accomplished, and the difficulties attending its enforcement. An unusually large and attentive audience listened to this talk. In the evening Rev. Gardiner Wills of Rumford Center was the speaker and the service was most helpful and interesting, with a good audience.
50 Years Ago: 1973
A concert presented with no admission charge, to further the interest of jazz music was given this week by a Portland dance band in the auditorium of the Auburn Central School. The Don Doan Band played their own arrangements, mostly jazz which was reported to be in good form. The band consists of 14 musicians including one lady trombonist. The event, which was reported to have been a “very good one,” was attended by Lewiston Auburn musicians and a sprinkling of interested persons Several specialty selections were played and the event proved to be a pleasing concert for those attending.
25 Years Ago: 1998
Members of the Lewiston- Auburn Optimist Club will meet at noon Friday at Davinci’s in the Bates Mill Complex. Guest speakers will be Diane Blanchard and Sue LaVine from Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
