100 Years Ago: 1923

Eventually, the body of Warren G. Harding may find a final resting place on the top of an old Indian mound just east of this city and overlooking the home where he lived for so many years and where he made his famous front porch campaign for the presidency.

Close personal friends of the late President have started a movement to that end, and which may include the erection of a suitable mausoleum with funds to be derived from the sale of gold dollars – the same plan followed in obtaining funds for the memorial to President William McKinley at Niles, Ohio.

50 Years Ago: 1973

Bob Sparks lifts off about 6:30 am from Bar Harbor on his solo flight hopefully to Europe. Conditions were right this morning after several delays. His trip should take five to ten days.

25 Years Ago: 1998

Tyler Scott Saucier, 5 of Auburn shoots a basketball in a game at the 50th Little annual World’s Fair Auburn Saturday. Proceeds for the event to benefit the East Auburn Community Unit. Organizers say that because of the fair site, along with other pressures, this may be the fair’s last year.
