Lobster Club Night in Lisbon Falls! Moreover the night is to be spread over a large area and the joy of the Lobster Club is to be communicated to folks in other sectors of the State. They are to carry the battle of lobster consumption to the home of the “lob” and show him how it’s done. In short, the famous Lisbon Falls organization is going to “make a pilgrimage tonight (Friday) to the New Meadows Inn and put on one of their famous “eats.”
50 Years Ago: 1973
When she got out of work early this morning a waitress at a Lewiston restaurant found she had been the victim of an apparent prank. Her car was on its side. Mrs. Jacqueline Daigneault of Woodside Drive, employed at Happy Jack’s Restaurant, notified police of the incident at about 1:30. While her car was in the restaurant’s parking lot on Lisbon Street, several somebodies had tipped it onto its side, then let the air out of the tires. There was no report of damage and the matter was being investigated by Lewiston police this morning.

Listen up, body builders. If you want to get buff, here’s the latest craze: antler velvet. Growing antlers have long been considered an aphrodisiac in parts of Asia. But the folk remedy is gaining wider acceptance in the West as people credit it for everything from easing arthritis symptoms to increasing vitality and building muscle mass. In Canada, a college football team has been given capsules of the substance to see if it enhances performance. Whether it works, its growing popularity is good for the Bayley Hill Elk and Deer Farm in Scarborough, where antler velvet harvested from a herd of 1,000 red deer and elk accounts for a third of annual revenue, said Nick Richardson, the farm’s manager. Richardson hasn’t tried it. But many who have consumed the product swear by it, he said. “People have taken these and they feel 100 percent better,” Richardson said as he showed off a dozen tagged antlers in a freezer awaiting shipment on a recent afternoon.
