DURHAM — The Select Board on Tuesday elected Joe Tomm as chairman and reelected Richard George as vice chairman.

It was the first meeting since Joe Roy and Heather Roy were elected to the board.

Selectmen approved increases in fees for construction and electrical permits, keeping Durham at or under surrounding towns’ averages.

Residential construction permits, which average $0.41 per square foot among nearby towns, were upped to $0.40 per square foot from $0.25. Conditional use permits were increased from $50 to $225, compared to the $293 average of surrounding towns. Demolition permits, which used to be exempt from construction fees, will cost $25 compared to the $55 average of surrounding towns.

Permanent service electrical permits were changed from a $75 flat fee to $0.08 per square foot, which is in line with the average in area towns. The minimum fee is $120 or 1,500 square feet.

Selectmen also renewed or approved around 50 town staff members and committee members.
