SKOWHEGAN — A St. Albans man has been sentenced to 23 years in prison for sexually assaulting a child younger than 12 over several months in 2020, officials said Wednesday.
Corey Farley, 30, was sentenced Tuesday at Somerset County Superior Court in Skowhegan to 23 years for one count of gross sexual assault and 10 years, to be served concurrently, for one count of unlawful sexual contact, according to a statement released by Somerset County Sheriff Dale Lancaster.
Farley was found guilty Dec. 15 at Superior Court after a two-day trial, according to Lancaster.
The case began when the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint July 27, 2021, according to Lancaster, who said his criminal division investigated. Detective Jeremy Leal was assigned to the case, and Farley was identified as the suspect.
“Corey Farley was arrested on Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2021, and charged with gross sexual assault (Class A), and unlawful sexual contact (Class B),” Lancaster said. “The arrest occurred at his residence in St. Albans without incident.”
When Farley is released from prison, he will be on lifetime supervision and required to comply with the Sex Offender Registry and Notification Act for the rest of his life, according to Lancaster.
Farley must complete sex offender treatment, as directed by the state Department of Corrections, and will be prohibited from having contact with the victim or members of the victim’s family. He will also be prohibited from having contact with anyone younger than 18.
