LEWISTON — Robert McCarthy of Lewiston has announced his candidacy for District 2 of the Androscoggin County Commission.
“As post-press production manager at the Sun Journal for the past 20 years, I believe my experience will translate well into the duties of a county commissioner,” McCarthy said. “I am involved with all aspects of employment from hiring, terminating, supervising and reviewing employees, to budgeting, production planning, building maintenance, among other responsibilities.”
A lifelong resident of Lewiston, McCarthy, 63, graduated in the Lewiston High School Class of 1975 and has been employed at the Sun Journal for 47 years. He has held leadership positions in numerous community organizations, including president of the Blue Devils Swim Boosters, vice president of the Blue Devils Soccer Boosters, vice president of the Allen Pond Improvement Association and the Vermont Avenue Road Association in Greene, as well as coach for L/A Youth Soccer and LEGO Robotics.
McCarthy has been married to his wife, Janet, for 44 years. The couple has two children and six grandchildren, all of whom live in Lewiston. His hobbies include activities with his grandchildren, disc gold and softball.
“In this time of upheaval in our lives, I feel a level-headed individual is needed in the position,” McCarthy said. “So I have decided to throw my hat into the ring.”
The election is Nov. 3.
District 2 includes much of the northern area of Lewiston.
