TURNER — Eli Lind came up big in a tightly played defensive duel between Leavitt and Gardiner in a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference baseball contest Monday.
The Leavitt catcher led off the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run to give the Hornets 1-0 victory.
Lind’s batterymate Tim Albert was outstanding on the mound, going the distance and striking out nine while allowing three hits and three walks for Leavitt (9-5).
Gardiner hurler Cole Lawrence was equally impressive. He also went the distance, allowing four hits, walking one and striking out three.
Casey Bourque had a pair of hits for the Tigers (10-3).
Dirigo 17, Boothbay 2, 5 innings
BOOTHBAY — Chandler Redmond had a double and a triple for Dirigo in a 17-2 baseball win over Boothbay on Monday.
Redmond finished with five RBIs in the game. Cam Turner, Cole Brown and Jeremy St. Germain each had two hits for the Cougars (5-8).
Hunter Crocker had a pair of hits for the Seahawks (2-11).
Freeport 10, Poland 1
FREEPORT — Gabe Wagner launched a home run and plated three runs as Freeport sailed to a 10-1 victory over Poland in baseball action Monday afternoon.
The Knights (1-13) drew first blood in the top of the third inning with a single run. The Falcons (10-3) responded with three in the home half of the fourth, and capped the scoring with seven in the fifth.
Shea Wagner had a double and a triple, while Cody Wagner laid down three singles for Freeport.
Colby Bell had three of Poland’s hits, and Adrien Melanson connected for a double in the losing effort.
Oak Hill 15, Mt. Abram 3
SALEM — Junior second baseman Ethan Barnett compiled three hits for the Raiders as Oak Hill pounded out a 15-3 victory over Mt. Abram in baseball action Monday afternoon.
The Raiders (4-8) went on a 10-run tear in the second inning. Barnett contributed a double for Oak Hill.
Junior left fielder Jack Demming had two hits and two RBIs for the Roadrunners (5-8) in the losing effort.
Monmouth sweeps Telstar
MONMOUTH — Monmouth registered eight runs in the first inning of Game 1 and posted 11 runs in the second inning of the nightcap for 16-6 and 14-1 victories over Telstar in a baseball doubleheader Monday.
Sophomore catcher Matt Fortin had two hits, including a double, two RBIs and three runs in Game 1 for the Mustangs (9-4). Junior left fielder Corey Armstrong had a triple and three RBIs in the second inning of Game 2.
Senior first baseman Jarrett Bean had a single, an RBI and two runs in the first game for the Rebels (2-9). He plated Telstar’s only run in the second game with an RBI single in the fourth inning.
Lewiston 13, Messalonskee 1
OAKLAND — Junior center fielder Cooper Millett went 3-for-4, including a home run, with two RBIs as Lewiston pummelled Messalonskee 13-1 in KVAC baseball action Monday.
The Blue Devils (9-4) produced 17 hits, and put seven runs on the board in the fourth inning. Junior pitcher Hunter Landry threw five innings, giving up just four hits and allowing only one run.
Center fielder Jake Perry was the only repeat hitter for the Eagles (7-7) in the losing effort.
Lisbon 7, Winthrop 5
WINTHROP — Lisbon rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh and held on for a 7-5 win over Winthrop in baseball action Monday afternoon.
Jackson Ladd had three singles, while Cam Gaghan added a pair for the Ramblers (8-5). But six errors led to Winthrop’s demise.
Pitcher Nick Austin earned the win for the Greyhounds (10-2). Lisbon’s offense was paced by Noah Austin, Lucas Frances and Sean Scott, who had two singles apiece.
St. Dom’s 3, Traip 2
KITTERY — Riley Volpe pitched a complete-game five-hitter while striking out eight as St. Dom’s edged Traip 3-2 in baseball action Monday.
Hunter Hughes clubbed three singles and scored a run for the Saints. Domenic Chasse an Jack Ouellette contributed RBI singles for St. Dom’s (9-4).
The Rangers (8-4) had already scored one run in the bottom of the seventh and had the tying run on third and the potential winning run stood at second. Volpe, though, managed to close the inning and earn the win.
Softball
Poland 8, Freeport 5, 8 innings
FREEPORT — Leya Harvey scored on a fielder’s choice to break a 5-5 tie and Amanda’lyn Gagne followed with a two-run single as Poland (7-6) defeated Freeport 8-5 in eight innings Monday.
Gagne tied the game in the seventh, scoring on a sacrifice fly by Morgan Brousseau.
Megan Cormier hit a two-run double during a three-run third for Freeport (2-11).
Spruce Mountain 13, Mountain Valley 1
JAY — JuJu Doiron had three hits and five RBIs as Spruce Mountain dealt Mountain Valley a 13-1 loss in softball action Monday.
The Phoenix (8-4) had a seven-run third inning and came up with another three runs over the next two. Allison Acritelli and Jenna Martin had two hits each for Spruce Mountain.
Gabbie Gallant posted two of the Falcons’ (0-13) five hits in the losing effort.
Gardiner 2, Leavitt 0
TURNER — Maddie Farnham stroked a pair of hits as Gardner blanked Leavitt 2-0 in softball action Monday afternoon.
The Tigers put single runs on the board in the first and second innings for the only scoring in the game. Farnham had an RBI in the second inning.
Leah Maheux and Annika Mitchell had the full complement of the Hornets’ hits in the losing effort.
Carrabec 20, Dirigo 0, 6 innings
DIXFIELD — Carrabec pitcher Samantha LeBeau helped her own cause by hitting a home run and a single and driving in four runs in the Cobras’ 20-0 victory over Dirigo in softball action Monday.
Bailey Dunphy also had a home run while driving in three runs in the victory for the Cobras (9-4). Mackenzie Baker added three singles.
With the loss, Dirigo drops to 3-10 on the season.
