SALEM — Luke Kearing smashed a two-run home run in the fourth inning that allowed Mt. Abram to salvage a 8-7 baseball win over Dirigo on Monday. 

Kearing led his squad with two hits in the contest, while Kenyan Pillsbury also belted out a pair of hits. Evan McKay contributed two hits for Mt. Abram.

The Cougars (4-6) were paced by starting pitcher Cole Brown’s RBI double. 

Edward Little 7, Erskine 2

SOUTH CHINA — Edward Little dug deep for two runs in the fourth inning and pulled away for a 7-2 baseball victory over Erskine on Monday. 

Austin Brown led the undefeated Red Eddies (11-0) with three hits, while Jake Arel pounded out two. 

Boomer Jorgensen led Erskine (4-7) with a two-run double. 

Gray-NG 8, Poland 3

GRAY — Gray-New Gloucester jumped out to a two-run advantage in the first inning and raced away to record a 8-3 baseball win over Poland on Monday. 

Eli Winchester led the Patriots with three hits, while Nick McCann belted out two hits.

Adrien Melanson had three hits for the Knights with three hits. Garrett Goss and Brycen Bell each pounded out two hits. 

Gray-NG’s Josiah Rottari picked up the mound win, while Brady Downing suffered the loss.

Lewiston 11, Cony 0

AUGUSTA — Owen Cox gave up two hits in four innings and received all kinds of run support as Lewiston overpowered and shut down Cony 11-0 in a lopsided baseball contest Monday. 

Cox helped his cause with two hits and two RBIs, while Evan Cox belted two hits and drove in a pair of runs. Elias Atkins scored two runs for the Blue Devils (7-3). 

Bobby Stolt suffered the loss for struggling Cony (2-0) after two innings of work.

Rangeley 14, Highview Christian 4

RANGELEY —  Kyle LaRochelle belted a double in the fourth inning to ignite a five-run rally that allowed Rangeley to secure a 14-4 baseball win over Highview Christian on Monday. 

LaRochelle and Bo Beaulieu led the Lakers (6-2) with three hits and four RBIs each, while Ian Lillis and Leo Perez each belted a pair of hits. 

Desmond Murray led Highview Christian with a two-run single in the third inning.

Hall-Dale 13, Mountain Valley 3

FARMINGDALE — Cole Lockhart scattered 10 hits, struck out eight and drew ample run support Monday as the Hall-Dale baseball team overpowered Mountain Valley 13-3. 

Akira Warren led the undefeated Bulldogs (10-0) with two hits and three RBIs. Lockhart helped his own cause with a pair of hits. 

The Falcons (6-3) were paced by Fischer Cormier and Garrett Garbarini with three hits apiece. 

Buckfield 32, Valley 4

BUCKFIELD — Rick Kraske struck out 10 and drew all kinds of run support as Buckfield overwhelmed Valley 32-4 in baseball action Monday.

Kraske helped the Bucks’ (5-3) cause with four hits and two RBIs, while Tyler Sullivan went 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI triples.

Dylan Bean suffered the loss for winless Valley (0-7). Josh Brown led the Cavaliers with one hit and one RBI.

Spruce Mountain 12, Boothbay 1

LIVERMORE FALLS — Jordy Daigle, Bryson Bailey and Shane Pelletier combined to strike out eight Boothbay batters as Spruce Mountain earned 12-1 baseball win Monday.

Bailey picked up the victory in relief.

Logan Moffatt, Shane Pelletier and Bailey each had a RBI double in the contest. Pelletier and Bailey finished with two hits apiece.

The Phoenix (5-4) scored five times in the bottom of the fifth and seven more times in the bottom of the fourth.

The Seahawks are now 2-9 on the year.

Girls’ lacrosse

St. Dom’s 18, Wells 4

WELLS — Caroline Gastonguay netted five goals and dished out six assists to lead St. Dom’s to a 18-4 girls’ lacrosse victory over Wells. 

Charlotte Gastonguay chipped in for the Saints with four goals and four assists. Emma Theriault contributed five goals, and Mia Leslie had a hat trick. Avery Lutryzkowski also tallied to complete the scoring. 

Simone Long made three saves for the Saints (5-1). 

Softball

Carrabec 3, Spruce Mountain 1

JAY — Mckenzie Baker ripped an RBI-double in the sixth inning to propel Carrabec to a 3-1 MVC softball win over Spruce Mountain on Monday. 

Sam Lebeau scattered five hits for the Cobras (6-3) while earning the win. Hannah Turcotte gave up three hits for the Phoenix (5-4). 

JuJu Doiron led Spruce Mountain with two hits and one RBI. 

Dirigo 11, Mt. Abram 7

SALEM — Dirigo put four runs on the board in the fourth frame to pull out a 11-7 softball victory over Mt. Abram on Monday.

Alexa Varnum led the Cougars (3-7) with a double and two RBIs, while Ashley Perreault, the winning pitcher, and Kailey Hackett also drove in two runs apiece.

Jake McLaughlin led the winless Roadrunners (0-10) with two hits and one RBI..  

Edward Little 16, Erskine Academy 1

SOUTH CHINA —  Chantel Ouellette gave up three hits in six innings and drew ample run support as the Edward Little softball team raced away to a 16-1 rout over Erskine on Monday. 

Jordan Cummings and Emily Lashua led the Red Eddies (7-4) with four hits apiece.

The Eddies’ bats were hot Monday with 22 hits overall in the contest. 

Buckfield 18, Valley 2

BINGHAM — Julia Dow and Cara Merrill were solid in the circle and at the plate in Buckfield’s 18-2 softball win over Valley on Monday.

Dow pitched five innings, allowing two runs and only one hit, and had three hits for the Bucks (6-2). Cara Merrill pitched two scoreless and hitless innings and belted a double and three singles.

Carly Trimm also had a double and three singles for Buckfield, and Molly Bourget finished with three singles.

Gardiner 6, Leavitt 0

GARDINER — Gardiner got off to fast start in a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference softball contest en route to a 6-0 win against Leavitt on Monday.

Jaz Clary had a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning for the Tigers, and Meghan Meehan had an RBI double in a two-run second inning. Gardiner scored once more in the third and twice in the sixth.

Jill Bisson had five strikeouts and only allowed two hits in the complete-game shutout.

Emily Swan went the distance for the Hornets, striking out three and walking one on six hits.

Tennis

Lewiston players earn byes in singles’ tournament

Lewiston’s Abby Svor, Ben St. Laurent and Caden Smith have earned byes into the round of 32 for the state singles’ tournament.

The tournament begins Friday, May 25, at Deering Oaks Park in Portland, with the round of 48 starting in the morning.

Svor will be the No. 9 seed in the girls’ tournament. Rosemary Campanella and Grace Campanella of Kennebunk-Wells are No. 1 and No. 2, respectfully. Svor will face the winner of the Nora Conrad (Winthrop)-Eleanor Bridgers (MDI) match at 2 p.m. in the round of 32.

Caden Smith will be the No. 10 seed in the boys’ tournament and will take on the Matthew Ray (Falmouth)-Jake LaPierre (Winslow) winner at 5:45 p.m. in the round of 32. St. Laurent is unseeded and will take on the winner of the Alec Cyr (Caribou)-William Nicholas (Yarmouth) match at 3:15 p.m.

Other locals in the girls tournament include Roslynn Wailus of Lewiston, who will take on Sarah Pelletier of Fort Kent in the round of 48. The winner will take on Katie Gilman of Cape Elizabeth in the round of 32.

Julia Svor of Lewiston takes on Daphne Stratton-Gignac of York in the round of 48. The No. 3 seed, Izzy Evans of Greely, awaits the winner. Mt. Blue’s Maeve Hickey takes on Meriam Nelson of Ellsworth in the round of 48. Grace Campanella awaits the winner in the round of 32.

In the boys’ tournament, Chris Marshall of Mt. Blue takes on Charlie O’Brien of Camden Hills for the opportunity to face No. 4 seed Peter Mao of Mt. Ararat in the round of 32. Marshall’s teammate Joe Crandall matches up with Abe LeMole in the round of 48. The winner gets Clay Canterbury of Freeport in the round of 32.

Lewiston’s Sam Frechette takes on Kazuyuki Kawashima of Foxcroft Academy in the round of 48. Zach Flannery the No. 8 seed will face the winner in the round of 32.

The round of 16 and quarterfinals will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 26, at Deering Oaks Park. The semifinals and championship matches will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 28, at Bates College.
