WALDOBORO —Back-to-back singles led to the winning run for Medomak Valley as it defeated Poland 4-3 in eight innings in a baseball contest Friday.
Duncan Wisecomb got on base in the bottom of the eighth inning and reached second on an error to put himself in scoring position. Jordan Powell, the next batter, drove in Wisecomb for the game-winner.
The Panthers (1-0) scored once in the first and scored twice in the fourth on a combination of walks and errors. They only had two hits in the game.
Poland (0-2) belted out 12 hits, with starting pitcher Brady Downing notching an RBI double in the fifth. Gawain Tibbetts also had a double in the fifth, one of his three hits in the game, and drove in two runs.
Adrien Melanson also had three hits in the losing effort, while Colby Bell had two.
The Knights had a chance in the fourth, but they left the bases loaded.
Edward Little 15, Camden Hills 3
ROCKPORT — Austin Brown sparked the offense as Edward Little defeated Camden Hills 15-3 in a KVAC baseball contest Friday.
Two of Brown’s three hits were doubles. He drove in four runs and scored three times.
Grant Hartley had two hits, including a double, while Jake Arel had two singles on the day. Both had two RBIs. Christian Beliveau scored three runs for the Red Eddies (2-0).
True Crane had two of the Windjammers’ six hits. Camden Hills (1-1) scored twice in the bottom of the second and once in the sixth.
Skowhegan 3, Lewiston 1
LEWISTON — Skowhegan took advantage of Lewiston miscues and scored three runs in the top of the fourth in the Indians’ 3-1 baseball win over at Bates College on Friday.
The Blue Devils (0-2) scored a run in the bottom of the third to take 1-0 lead.
Chris Etsy struck out four and pitched a complete-game three-hitter for Skowhegan (1-0). Michael Christopher had two hits.
Lewiston’s Owen Cox was the hard-luck loser, allowing only four hits over 6 1/3 innings.
Oxford Hills 3, Hampden 2
HAMPDEN — A two-run single by Hunter LaBossier in the fifth inning tied the game for Oxford Hills, and a bases-loaded walk in the sixth by Cameron Slicer scored the winning run in a 3-2 victory over Hampden in baseball action Friday afternoon.
Janek Luksza pitched a complete game for the Vikings (2-0).
The Broncos (0-2) stranded runners on second and third in the sixth inning.
Dirigo 43, Boothbay 1
DIXFIELD — Senior designated hitter Cooper Chiasson missed the cycle by just a single in the first inning for Dirigo as the Cougars pounded out a 43-1 victory over Boothbay in Mountain Valley Conference baseball action Friday afternoon.
Cougars (1-0) junior left fielder Chandler Redmond finished with five hits and four RBIs, while Tucker Olsen contributed four hits and four RBIs.
Chiasson collected three hits and drove in five runs. Winning pitcher Cole Brown, a freshman, helped his cause with two hits and five RBIs for Dirigo.
The Seahawks (0-1) scored its only run in the first inning, and catcher Fox Elder manufactured Boothbay’s only hit in the third inning in the losing effort.
Softball
Oak Hill 12, Mt. Abram 0, 5 innings
WALES — Sadie Waterman was solid both at the plate in the circle in Oak Hill’s 12-0 win over Mt. Abram in a MVC softball contest.
Waterman had two hits and pitched three shutout innings for the Raiders. She had a double in the first and also had an RBI single. In the circle, she only allowed one hit, to Cam Waho in the third.
Mahala Smith had two-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning for the Raiders. Kiera Young had a “walkoff” double that scored one to enact the 12-run mercy rule.
Molly Flaherty pitched two shutout innings in relief of Waterman.
Summer Ross went the distance for the Roadrunners (0-1).
Edward Little 10, Camden Hills 0
ROCKPORT — Sophomore pitcher Chantel Ouellette gave up just one hit while striking out eight, and tagged three hits, including a double, for two RBIs to lead Edward Little to a 10-0 triumph over Camden Hills in softball action Friday afternoon.
The Red Eddies (2-0) peppered 13 hits, including a two-run home run by senior Taylor Depot. Sophomore Anna LeBlanc contributed two doubles and four RBIs for Edward Little.
Lauren Miller singled with one out in the fifth inning for the Windjammers’ (0-2) only hit. But she was eventually erased by a double play from pitcher Ouellette to shortstop Depot to first baseman LeBlanc to end the threat.
Medomak Valley 9, Poland 5
WALDOBORO — Addie Jameson assembled a single, double and triple and drove in two runs and led Medomak Valley to a 9-5 win over Poland in softball action Friday afternoon.
The Knights (1-1) managed to close to within one at 6-5 in the top of the sixth inning, but the Panthers (1-0) rallied for three runs in the bottom of the frame, and held on for the win.
Pitcher Ally Gagne and Shelby LaFrinea had three singles and an RBI apiece for Poland in the losing effort.
Oxford Hills 9, Hampden 2
HAMPDEN — Lauren Merrill smacked a two-run home run as Oxford Hills cruised to a 9-2 victory over Hampden in softball action Friday afternoon.
The Vikings scored three times in each of the first and fourth innings. Madison Day and Kaisa Heikkinen had a pair of singles apiece for Oxford Hills.
Grace Bennett had two singles, while Emily Dysart supported the offense with a single and a double for the Broncos in the losing effort.
