AUBURN — Grant Hartley had a solid all-around day to help lead Edward Little to a 5-1 victory over Hampden Academy in a KVAC baseball contest.
Hartley, a senior, had three RBIs, including a solo home run in the bottom of the first. He had an RBI single in the third as the Red Eddies scored twice, and with the bases loaded in the fourth, he was hit by a pitch to drive in a run.
On the mound, he went six innings, striking out eight while only allowing two hits and two walks.
Austin Brown had three hits for EL (1-0), while Ben Cassidy had a double.
Nick Lorenzo drove in Broncos starting pitcher Derek Gendreau in the top of the first for the visitors’ only run of the contest. Johnny Wolfington had a double in the third, but couldn’t score for Hampden Academy (0-1).
Softball
Lewiston 2, Bangor 0
LEWISTON — Gemma Landry led Lewiston with three hits, including an RBI single in the bottom of the third to key a two-run inning and help lift the Blue Devils to a 2-0 win over Bangor in the teams’ first game of the season Wednesday.
Landry’s single knocked in Skylar Gelinas, who’d reached on an error and scampered to third on a Jordyn Rubin hit. Rubin then scored on a Meagan Gosselin groundout to second.
Danielle Cyr earned the complete-game shutout victory in the circle for the Devils (1-0), striking out four. Morgan Carter-Moulton and Lexi Cunningham split pitching duties for the Rams (0-1), and allowed just five hits in the game in front of four fielding errors.
Mt. Blue 5, Camden Hills 1
FARMINGTON — Jacelyn Daggett had three hits and two RBIs to lead Mt. Blue to a 5-1 victory over Camden Hills in a KVAC softball contest.
Bradie Reynolds had two hits, including a double for the Cougars (0-1).
Maddy Smith picked up the win going the distance while allowing just four hits.
Emily Lang picked up the loss for the Windjammers (0-1).
