AUBURN — Settle down, doughnut eaters. Krispy Kreme isn’t going anywhere.

Rumors that the Auburn store is closing are completely unfounded, Krispy Kreme promised Thursday. In fact, those rumors have been so sticky and pervasive, company officials took to Facebook to sooth the sugar-craving masses.

“Interestingly, there has been a rumor that this location may be closing, which may have stemmed from a national posting on Facebook about a location in Tennessee,” according to the post. “Please accept our apologies for any confusion that may have caused about Auburn. We are alive and well, and look forward to hopefully seeing you soon!”

Seriously, does that really surprise anyone? When Krispy Kreme announced in 2017 that it planned to open an Auburn store, locals didn’t stop talking about it for months. When the store finally opened in mid-January, doughnut fans camped out in front of the stores hours ahead of time.

In the cold. In the middle of winter. Because they wanted Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

In fact, company officials say, business has been great since the opening.

“Since opening only eight short weeks ago, we are very honored to have hired a fantastic staff headed by a great management team,” according to the Facebook post, “and the reception from our guests has been tremendous! The shop is operating better than anticipated.”
