HONORED — Oxford Recreation Director Connie Staples, left, presents longtime Recreation Committee member Pam Lovely with a plaque and card honoring her for her 31 years of service at the Thursday, Sept. 21 selectmen’s meeting. Staples estimated Lovely – who has done everything from fundraising to running the annual duck race to lining the ball fields – has volunteered more than 17,000 hours. “And that’s conservative, I’m sure,” Staples said. “She has kept the Recreation Department going – many people don’t see to appreciate all the things she has done, including myself until I started working for the Recreation Department. … She was always there. You will be missed.” Lovely is retiring from serving on the Rec Committee and her family was there to celebrate with cake and cupcakes afterwards.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
