I just wanted to put my two cents in on this whole “merger” fiasco.
I am voting against a merger. I think it is a really ill-conceived idea. Why don’t we just bring in Sabattus, Greene, Turner, Poland and Durham, as well? And why stop there? Let’s merge with Lisbon, Topsham — all the way to Brunswick. And then, let’s start a contest to decide what the new city should be called. Then we can invite everyone out for pizza on the Joint Charter Commission’s tab.
I’ll be glad when the nonsensical merger idea is finally put to rest in November. Then the public can stop having to listen to those high and mighty people preaching about what they think is good for those of us who are proud to live in our respective cities of Lewiston and Auburn.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
