LEWISTON — Jordyn Rubin peppered four singles to help Lewiston to a 6-4 triumph over Mt. Ararat in softball action Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Devils (4-1) bounced back from giving up four runs in the top of the third inning with a pair of tallies in the bottom of the frame, and rallied for another four in the bottom of the fourth. Megan Theriault, Lexi Poulin and Kallie May contributed a double each for Lewiston.

The Eagles (4-1) outpaced Lewiston 12-11 in hits with Zoe Stilphen, Alana Wevaer, Kayleigh Temple, Katelyn Cox and Holly Temple providing two each, but couldn’t produce more than their four runs in the third.

Telstar 9, Hall-Dale 5

FARMINGDALE — Senior center Tasha Hart and sophomore third baseman Joshie Forbes notched three hits each to lead Telstar to a 9-5 victory over Hall-Dale in softball action Saturday afternoon.

The Rebels (2-0) led 7-1 after four innings. Pitcher Kylee Martin and left fielder Taylor Mason contributed two hits each for Telstar.

Jill Whynot and Sierra Godbout smashed home runs in a 4-run fifth inning for the Bulldogs (1-2) to close the gap to 7-5. Hall-Dale left the bases loaded in the sixth, and with the Rebels leading 9-5 in the bottom of the seventh, Mason made a running diving catch to prevent another rally from developing.

Monmouth 12, Mountain Valley 0, 5 innings

RUMFORD — Haylee Langlois doubled and tripled to lead Monmouth to a 12-0 softball win over Mountain Valley in five innings on Saturday.

Mariah Herr also had two hits for the Mustangs (2-1), and Emily Chasse went the distance on the mound, giving up only three hits over five innings.

Emily pitched all five innings for the Falcons, who fall to 2-2 on the season.

Winthrop 13, Dirigo 3

WINTHROP — Molly Glaser’s home run and Kate Perkins’ four hits supported pitcher Layne Audet in Winthrop’s 13-3 softball win over Dirigo on Saturday.

Glaser belted a three-run homer in the fourth inning to five the Ramblers (2-1) a 11-3 lead after the Cougars had cut it to 7-3 in the top of the inning.

Audet pitched all seven innings, striking out 13 to earn the win. Ashley Perreault fanned three in seven innings for Dirigo (1-1) in the loss.

Buckfield 8, Vinalhaven 5

VINALHAVEN — Back-to-back triples in the fifth inning helped propel Buckfield to a 8-5 victory over Vinalhaven.

Hannah Shields cleared the bases with her triple and Caroline Trimm drove in Shields as part of a seven run inning to take 8-4 lead. The Bucks (3-0) scored their first run in the first inning. Shields’ sister, Abby, had a pair of hits, as did Kali Litchfield

The Vikings (1-3) had the 2-1 lead after one inning before scoring two more in the fifth and one more in the seventh. Gilleyanne Davis-Oakes had three hits, including a triple and a double. Deja Doughty had a pair of hits including a double.

Boys’ lacrosse

Oak Hill 10, Portland 9

PORTLAND — Marcus Bailey and Gabe Bergeron netted three goals each as Oak Hill edged Portland 10-9 in boys’ lacrosse action Saturday afternoon.

Steve Gilbert contributed two goals for the Raiders.

Reilly O’Brien recorded a game-high six goals for Bulldogs.

Goalie Nate Marcotte made 14 saves to earn the win in net for Oak Hill.

Baseball

Hall-Dale 10, Telstar 5

BETHEL — Freshman Akira Warren singled, doubled and earned the win in relief as Hall-Dale dispatched Telstar 10-5 in baseball action Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs capitalized on walks and timely hits, scoring eight runs after the third inning.

Pitcher Tanner Wheeler had two singles but suffered the loss on the mound for the Rebels. Boston Ludden roped a triple in the losing effort.

Cape Elizabeth 6, Poland 0

CAPE ELIZABETH — Catcher Brandon Tinsman collected two hits, two runs batted in and four stolen bases as Cape Elizabeth blanked Poland 6-0 in baseball action Saturday afternoon.

The Capers (3-1) pushed four runs across the plate in the fourth inning. John Agraonis and Ryan Ware recorded two RBIs each for Cape Elizabeth.

Noah Salmons took the loss on the mound for the Knights (2-3).

NYA 6, St. Dom’s 3

NORTH YARMOUTH — Jack Strobley knocked in a pair of uns in the fourth inning to help lift North Yarmouth Academy to a 6-3 victory over St. Dom’s in baseball action Saturday afternoon.

Jackson Newell had a big two-out single for two runs in the second inning to put the Panthers (2-1) up 3-0 at the time.

Freshamn catcher Michael Cilley provided two RBIs for the Saints (1-1) in the losing effort.

Lisbon 3, Dirigo 0

DIXFIELD — Sophomore right fielder Sean Scott belted a two-run single in the seventh inning to lift Lisbon to a 3-0 shutout victory over Dirigo in baseball action Saturday afternoon.

Senior catcher Ryley Austin stroked an RBI single in the first inning for the Greyhounds (3-0). The 1-0 lead remained the same until Scott’s two-run shot in the seventh.

Senior catcher Bryce Whittemore produced a pair of singles for the Cougars (1-3) in the losing effort.

Buckfield 8, Vinalhaven 4

VINALHAVEN — Junior short stop Ethan Jackson was prolific at the plate, collecting four hits, as Buckfield sailed to an 8-4 victory over Vinalhaven in baseball action Saturday afternoon.

The Bucks (2-1) had a four-run outburst in the first inning with big hits from first baseman Zack Grover and Jackson.

The Vikings (0-3) came roaring back from a 6-0 deficit in the top of the third inning when first baseman Cody Hamilton cleared the bases with a three-run triple and finished the frame with four tallies.

College Baseball

Tufts sweeps Bates

MEDFORD, Mass. — First-year Will Sylvia went 4-for-6 at the plate with three runs scored over two games, but Bates fell to No. 10 nationally ranked Tufts in both contests by scores of 9-1 and 6-4, respectively.

The Jumbos (25-5-1) scored two in the second and three in the fifth to take a commanding advantage in their 9-1 victory over the Bobcats 913-11) in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader.

Nick Falkson hit a walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Jumbos the 6-4 victory in game two of Saturday’s twin bill.

Trailing 4-3 entering the top of the ninth, Bates rallied against Tufts closer Ian Kinney. Sylvia reached on an infield single to start the inning. One out later, he stole second and Brendan Fox singled him home to even the contest at four apiece. The Bobcats were unable to do further damage as a line out and a foul out ended the inning.

College Softball

Bowdoin sweeps Bates

BRUNSWICK — The Bowdoin softball team secured hosting rights for the NESCAC Championship following a series sweep of Bates on Saturday afternoon.

The Polar Bears (27-8) defeated the Bobcats (10-16) by a margin of 8-1 in the opener and 5-1 in game two. Bowdoin is the top seed in the NESCAC East and earned hosting rights for the first time in program history.

Bowdoin jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of the opener. Marisa O’Toole and Claire McCarthy each tagged RBI singles and Lauren O’Shea added a two-run single.

Maddie Inlow went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double for Bates in game 1, while scoring on a single from Mimi Crowley in game two.

Allison Rutz launched a two-run home run in the third inning of game two for Bowdoin.
