AUGUSTA — Koby Rogerson belted an RBI single in the 10th inning that plated Josiah Cyr and gave Brewer a 2-1 victory over Edward Little in an early-season baseball matchup Wednesday.
Rogerson led the Witches (1-0) with a pair of hits and the winning RBI, while Josh Pellegrino and Jon Wheaton also belted out two hits.
Maxx Bell led the Red Eddies (0-1) a pair of hits. Wheaton earned the win after working the 10th, while CJ Jipson suffered the loss.
Damien St. Pierre started the game for EL and went pitched innings, striking out 10 and walking just one while scattering seven hits.
Falmouth 3, Gray-New Gloucester 0
GRAY — Cam Guarino struck out 14 in a complete-game effort as Falmouth defeated Gray-New Gloucester 3-0 in a WMC baseball contest Wednesday.
Guarino had to pitch out of a couple of jams as the Patriots left runners on second and third in the first and fourth innings. They also had the bases loaded in the third.
After getting getting their first run on a fielder’s choice in the top of the first inning, Robbie Armitage hit a triple in the third and later scored to make it 2-0 Yachtsmen. Falmouth added a third run in the fourth.
John Henry Villanueva had a pair of hits for Gray-New Gloucester.
Lawrence 7, Lewiston 3
LEWISTON — A Brandon Hill double sparked a three-run sixth inning as Lawrence defeated Lewiston 7-3 Wednesday in the season-opener. Hill also scored twice in the game.
The Bulldogs scored three more in the seventh on a string of singles. Braden Ballard pitched a complete game, striking out four.
Jack LeBlond had an RBI double as the Blue Devils scored a run in the first, second and fourth innings.
Lawrence scored their first run in the third inning.
Girls’ lacrosse
Proctor 15, Hebron 4
Molly Mueller netted five goals on Wednesday to propel Proctor to a 15-4 early-season girls’ lacrosse win over Hebron.
Emily Saef chipped in for Proctor (3-1) with three goals, while Mikala Eacrett tallied two. Single tallies from Lainie Renaud, Nicole Kimtis, Sarah Ferdinand, Pernilla Shaw and Julia Royal completed the scoring.
Hebron (0-1) was paced by Lizz McKinnon with three goals, while Avery Jurek also tallied. Frances Whyte made four saves for Proctor, while Casey Chizmazia turned aside seven shots for Hebron.
Softball
Spruce Mountain 9, Maranacook 6
JAY — Spruce Mountain built a five-run advantage in the first three frames and hung on to record a 9-6 win over Maranacook in a season-opening softball tilt.
Calley Baker led the Phoenix (1-0) with four hits, while Paige Hutton belted out three. Hailee Perkins, Grace Harmatys and Alyssa Black also had multiple hits in a well-balanced effort.
Veteran pitcher Alex Bessey gave up 12 hits in seven innings while earning the win.
The Black Bears (0-1) were paced by Justice Merrill, Amanda Goucher, Gennah Mason and Sally Whittington, all with multiple hits.
Poland 7, Lake Region 0
POLAND — Poland scored six of its seven runs in the first two innings in a 7-0 victory over Lake Region on Wednesday in the teams’ season opener.
Sarah Walton paced the Knights offense with a pair of doubles and four RBIs. Her first double drove in three runs in the second inning, and her second double scored one in the fourth inning.
The Lakers’ starting pitcher Kaylyn Lorrain issued 10 walks.
Ally Gagne went the distance for the victory, striking out five and walking two. She had a perfect game through five innings, which was broken up in the sixth inning when Dessiree Berry dropped a push bunt down the third base line.
