PORTLAND — The Southern Maine Flame U14 Black went 7-0 to capture the Southern Maine Diamond Challenge (SMDC) in Portland on June 11-12. The girls earned the number one seed after going 3-0 in pool play, yielding just five runs. They began bracket winning their first three games to advance to the finals against the Northeast Hurricanes. After falling behind 5-1, the Flame came storming back with a seven run inning to take the lead for good. The game ended with a perfect 6-4-3 double play to claim victory in their first tournament of the season . The victory was the 99th championship for the Southern Maine Flame. Their next tournament is the upcoming U16 ASA State tournament that will be held in Lewiston June 24-26.
