AUBURN — Junior pitcher Jarod Norcross-Plourde smashed a two-run home run and struck out 11 as Edward Little captured a 4-2 victory over Messalonskee in baseball action Wednesday afternoon.

Grant Hartley doubled in the fourth inning for the Red Eddies (16-1). Christian Beliveau pinch ran for Hartley and scored the game-winning run.

Senior designated hitter Jonathan Wilkie had two hits including an RBI single for the Eagles (10-8) in the lising effort.

No. 5 Leavitt 3, No. 12 Spruce Mountain 1

TURNER — Nate Ouellette rapped a pair of hits and drove in a run as Leavitt bested Spruce Mountain 3-1 in Class B South Prelims in baseball action Wedneaday afternoon.

The Hornets got their go-ahead run in the sixth inning. Brian Hewitt went the distance for Leavitt, fanning eight and giving up only two hits and an earned run.

The Phoenix got a strong start start from Jordy Daigle, who kept Leavitt off-balance for most of the game. Shane Pelletier plated the lone Spruce Mountain run.

Softball

No. 7 Monmouth 9, No. 10 Winthrop 2

MONMOUTH — Freshman Mariah Herr produced two hits and three RBIs to lead Monmouth to a 9-2 victory and the elimination of rival Winthrop from Class C South softball tournament action Wednesday afternoon.

Monmouth scored all the runs it needed off freshman starter Layne Audet with two outs in the second.

Trailing 1-0, Mikayla Cameron was hit by a pitch. Singles by Rhiannon Dumond and Emily Chasse sent Cameron home with the tying run. Herr followed with a single that scored Chasse and Herr for a 3-1 lead.

Abby Ferland, another freshman, had a two-run double for the Mustangs.

Kaliegh Oberg doubled and tripled, and Molly Glaser had two singles, an RBI and a run scored for the Ramblers in the losing effort.

TURNER — They had to wait a day, but for the Leavitt softball team, the wait was well worth it.

After a pair of sacrifice fly balls in the fifth inning plated a pair of runs, the Hornets’ Ashley Kelley ripped an inside-the-park home run off Lincoln Academy pitcher Kortney McKenna to add an insurance marker as Leavitt toppled the Eagles 4-1 in a Class B South preliminary round game.

Pitcher Abby Robertson, who allowed just one run on three hits in seven innings of work, clubbed the sac fly that turned into the winning run.

McKenna suffered the loss for the Eagles. The Hornets (11-6) move on to face No. 2 Yarmouth on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Girls’ lacrosse

No. 2 St. Dom’s 15, No. 10 Camden Hills 2

AUBURN — Caroline Gastonguay recorded seven goals as St. Dom’s cruised to a 15-2 victory over Camden Hills in Class B North quarterfinals girls’ lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon.

The Saints received offensive support from Avery Lutryzkowski, who netted three goals. Hannah Trottier contributed two goals, while Emma Theriault pitched in with one goal and two assists.

Hazel Delehey and Sarah Contento scored the only two goals the Windjammers would get in the outing.

Goalie Hava Cazemejou made 10 saves for Camden Hills, while goalie Abby Slonina stopped seven in net for St. Dom’s.
