BUCKFIELD — Buckfield erupted with eight runs in the fourth inning and coasted the rest of the way to a 16-7 victory over Old Orchard Beach in a softball opener Thursday.
Abby Shields went six innings and struck out eight batters before being relieved by Julia Dow. Kali Litchfield went 3-for-5, including hitting a two doubles. Ashley Campbell went 3-for-4 and also hammered out a triple. Abby Fogg tripled twice and Hannah Shields tripled and singled.
The Bucks held a 6-0 going into that explosive fourth inning.
Boys’ lacrosse
Lincoln Academy 7, Mt. Blue 6
NEWCASTLE— Nate Simmons dropped in six goals and picked up an assist along the way as Lincoln Academy as it went on to beat Mt. Blue 7-6 in a boys’ lacrosse opener Thursday.
Brandon Barter also scored and teammate Sam Peters collected two assists for Lincoln.
For the Cougars, Cordell Ellis scored a pair of goals and Connor Rouillard, Reed Wells, Joe Bowering and Leo Flanner each scored a goal.
