There has been some inquiry touching the date at which the work of construction of the great addition of a weave shed to the Bates mill would be begun. We learn on good authority that the work has already begun in a preliminary way. Wednesday a crew was employed in investigating the site to ascertain the depth of the surface of the rock. It has not yet been fully decided whether to build of brick or of cement. If it is built of brick, it will require enough bricks to load two trains reaching from the North bridge to Frye street. The weave shed would be located on the old Pingree lot, which contains four and a half acres or aboout180,000 square feet. The lot is south of Main street and extends to the upper cross canal.

The two dressing rooms in the basement of the Lewiston Armory were separated by a thin, dusty hall. Joey Gamache waited on one side. Al Jackson on the other. Gamache, the hometown rookie, sat on a table, his back against the wall. The anxiety of a first pro fight was building. Gamache literally charged across the ring near the end of the third round and put Jackson on his back with a simple but vicious left to the rib cage that left the poor guy wobbly on one knee and unable to hear the bell, let alone answer it. Fight fans in Lewiston may look back one day and rember that Friday night at the Armory.
