Photos: Students’ hard work goes up, up and away in 3rd annual USM CubeSat Design competition
Students from a dozen middle and high schools competed in the University of Southern Maine’s third annual CubeSat Design Competition on Saturday at Mt. Blue High School in Farmington. A balloon took student-designed microsatellites to an altitude of about 120,000 feet, with the launch testing mission planning, engineering design, and performance of the student-built cubesats (a class of small cube-shaped research satellites, often weighing less than 3 pounds).

Local robotics teams qualify for New England District Championship
Knights of Katahdin, a rookie team from Wilton, and Blue Crew, a team with students and mentors from Farmington and Jay schools, are among the 90 FIRST Robotics Competition teams that qualified for the New England District Championship being held April 5-8 in West Springfield, Massachusetts.

Mike Hansen, along with Heather MacDonald and Sarah Rowe, are working hard to recruit more girls to join the Western Maine Women's Wrestling club, which features girls from all over western Maine.

Mt. Blue girl’s wrestling seeks to make a varsity squad
Mt. Blue wrestling coach Michael Hansen approached the RSU 9 Board of Directors to talk about the amazing things the girl's wrestling team has accomplished, but also requested the formation of a varsity squad.
