Costumes and candy ruled Sunday at the Litchfield Fairgrounds for the Regional School Unit 4 PTA Trunk or Treat, an annual event celebrating Halloween, and one of dozens of events and displays scheduled between now and the end of October.

Postal Service staffing shortages prompting alarming delays for central Mainers
Across the region, businesses and residents are complaining that spotty mail delivery is delaying checks, bills and medications, but with about 100 vacancies for Postal Service workers in Maine and a low unemployment rate, it's not clear service will improve any time soon.

Photos: World champion pétanque player Marco Foyot teaches Augusta enthusiasts how to up their game
World Champion Marco Foyot, of France, visited the Mill Park pétanque courts Friday in Augusta for a demonstration and clinic. In pétanque, players aim to beat opponents by throwing boules as close to a target ball as possible while standing in a circle with both feet on the ground. Foyot is a seven-time French national champion in the sport and also won the country's junior championship twice. As a member of France's triples team in World Pétanque Championship competition, he has won a gold, a silver and four bronze medals. All photos by Joe Phelan.
