Froma Harrop: It should have been easy to knock off Trump
As I write this, we don’t know the winner of the 2020 presidential race. By the time you read it, we still may not know. There are votes to be counted. What seems very apparent, though, is that Democrats did not enjoy the romp that they and some political prognosticators had expected. They were running […]

Lynda Leonas: School resource officers are needed
I applaud the Lewiston School Committee for retaining school resource officers within the School Department. SROs working within Lewiston and Androscoggin County school systems provide opportunities to safely educate all students to take responsibility for actions, to manage that responsibility within a civilized society, and to maintain methods that allow students to form as adults […]

Marcia Donald: Teachers face ‘a huge job’
I attended the Regional School Unit 9 board meeting on Oct. 27 through Zoom. I watched and listened with dismay to the teachers as they spoke of the problems they are experiencing while working with no contract in conditions that are substandard. Teachers have a huge job before them, and have the students’ well-being and […]

Gil Steward: Auburn traffic needs to slow down
I read in the Oct. 29 Sun Journal about the new planned revamped Route 4 in East Auburn by the causeway. The engineers said in the article that while the speed limit is posted at 40 mph on that section of road, the actual speeds are closer to 60 mph. It’s like when the drivers […]

We already have plenty of folks here who don’t keep a safe distance, and enter and roam about in stores having big clear signs at the door “Masks […]

In rebuttal: Hester Gilpatric: Minot neighbors ‘very caring and friendly’
I am writing in response to the letter from Lindie LeClair in the Sun Journal on Sept. 26. I find the people of Minot very friendly. Since this COVID-19 shutdown in March we just wave to each other. But before this shutdown how much did her or her mom participate in any activities in Minot? […]
