YARMOUTH, Maine (AP) — The Maine-based mapmaker DeLorme has laid-off 15 employees, the first cuts the company has made in nearly ten years.

A company spokesman told WCSH-TV the staff reductions are needed to ensure the company can compete in a global marketplace.

The company has been making the transition from paper maps to more digital products.

DeLorme describes itself as a leading provider of mapping products, technologies, and data for the consumer and professional markets.
