FARMINGTON – Approximately 627 Central Maine Power customers in Franklin County remain without power Tuesday morning.
CMP’s goal is to have all customers, a total of under 3,000 in their central and southern Maine coverage area, back on line “by dinner time” or 6 p.m. tonight, said Gail Rice spokesman for CMP.
Some customers in Industry, Weld, Chesterville, Wilton, New Sharon, Farmington and a few in Jay continue Tuesday without power. Most of the damage was caused by Monday’s storm, she said.
Additional crews are being sent to the areas without power Tuesday to help make the dinner time goal, she said.
A transformer at the Sturtevant Substation off Route 2 in Farmington caused nearly 3,800 additional customers in Farmington to lose power Monday night. The power went out shortly before 6 p.m. Monday night and restarted at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Monday’s storm dumped heavy, wet snow and iced limbs and branches which then came down on lines, she said. The transformer issue was in addition and took out power throughout the downtown Farmington.
A considerable number of CMP engineers, substation personnel and line crews worked to move a mobile substation in and restore the power to Farmington customers, she said. The mobile unit will remain in place until the substation is repaired or replaced.
“The storm did a lot of damage. It was a long day and a long night. Crews were set back with the snow and wind and driving conditions were difficult Monday,” she said.
