BETHEL — The Telstar Varsity Rebels continued playing a difficult schedule with a string of away games. After a tough loss to Spruce Mountain, the Rebels rebounded taking the next two games, also. on the road with victories against Carrabec and Dirigo, boosting their season record to 4-2.
The Rebels took an early lead scoring one in the first inning with Natasha Mason on the mound. Carrabec evened the score at one in the third, before the Rebels pulled ahead with another run in the fourth inning when Katie Evans scored on a passed ball. The Rebels gave up the tying run in the bottom of the seventh, but ended Carrabec’s rally and sending the game to extra innings when Leah Kimball made a game saving running catch in right field.
In the top of the eighth the Rebels scored five runs by executing well placed bunts and timely steals. Mason struck out one and induced two ground ball outs to earn the victory. Brooklyn Kimball, Sarah Chase, Makenzie Elliott all had hits for the Rebels with senior captain Shelby Thorman slugging two hits and scoring a run.
The Rebels travelled the following day to Dirigo, and emerged as 8-2 victors. Once again the Rebels jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as senior captain Brooklyn Kimball singled, driving in Natasha Mason. The Dirigo Cougars came from behind and went up 2-1 in the fourth, before Telstar scored three in the fifth on hits by Jordan Berry, Makenzie Elliott and Brooklyn Kimball. The Lady Rebels added four more runs in the top of the seventh to pad the lead. Payton Berry’s single and doubles by Makenzie Elliott and Brooklyn Kimball paced the attack. Natasha Mason earned the victory on the mound, scattering four hits while striking out two.
