WILTON — Police Chief Dennis Brown has accepted a position in Folly Beach, South Carolina. His last day with the Wilton department is March 14.
The new position will allow him and his wife, Amanda Brown, who works in the Education Department at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington an opportunity to be closer to each of their families, he said Monday. His parents have faced serious medical issues this year, he added.
In his new position as Director of Public Safety in Folly Beach, he’ll oversee the Police and Fire departments in a beach town with about a population of about 2,500 local residents that can swell to over 50,000 daily visitors, he said.
The couple came to New England seven years ago where he started with a position in Vermont. He has served Wilton as police chief for just over four years. During that time, he has seen the police department and community reunite.
“It’s a caring community willing to help each other,” he said. “They are friends.”
He expects the couple will return to New England and the ski slopes some time after he retires.
