POLAND — A Mechanic Falls teenager died Wednesday afternoon in a head-on collision on Harris Hill Road in Poland.

Tyler Bisbee, 17, of Mechanic Falls, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 3:49 p.m. crash that occurred on a stretch of Harris Hill Road between Bailey Hill and Everett roads.

Lt. Glenn J. Holt of the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department said in a press release that Bisbee’s 1991 Honda CRX was southbound on Harris Hill Road when the car crested a hill and crossed the centerline into an oncoming SUV driven by Tamara Lafont, 52, of Poland. Lafont was taken to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, where she was treated and released, according to a nursing supervisor at the hospital.

Holt reported that Lafont had steered her 2005 GMC Envoy as far to the right side of the road as possible without driving off the road and into a snowbank before Bisbee hit her vehicle head-on. Authorities did not know why Bisbee crossed the centerline.

Harris Hill Road was closed for about two hours while investigators reconstructed the crash. The accident remained under investigation by the Sheriff’s Department, which is being assisted by Maine State Police. Anyone with information is asked to contact Deputy Kevin Nichols at (207) 784-7361.
