AUGUSTA — Gov. Paul LePage says the Maine State Housing Authority is holding a special meeting for customers of a heating oil company that abruptly closed last month, potentially leaving some people in the cold.

Hundreds of customers who pre-paid for their oil complained to the attorney general and local lawmakers after the 84-year-old company, Brunswick-based Thibeault Energy, went out of business in mid-January.

LePage says the Maine State Housing Authority will hold a special screening Saturday for Thibeault customers who may qualify for help under the federal Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program. Also, five area credit unions have agreed to offer 12-month, zero interest, no-fee fuel-assistance loans of up to $2000 to former Thibeault customers who need help this winter.
