TURNER — Upper Street, between Route 4 and Poplar Drive, was closed for hours Wednesday morning as police and utility workers cleared an accident.

According to the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department, a car hit a Central Maine Power pole on Upper Street at about 5:17 a.m., knocking the pole across the street and blocking traffic.

The road remained closed until well after 8 a.m.
