100 years ago,1910

The Lewiston Public Library has just added to its list of periodicals one which must prove of great interest to intelligent readers — the National Geographic Magazine.

This magazine, illustrated with beautiful colored pictures, is obtained only through membership with the National Geographic Society, founded 20 years ago in Washington, D.C., “to increase and diffuse geographic knowledge.”

The November number of the magazine is now in the reading room of the library.

50 years ago, 1960

The three-and-a-half-story commercial property at 179-187 Lisbon St., formerly occupied by Montgomery Ward & Co., has been sold to Bertrand L. Pontbriand, Auburn businessman. It is understood the property will be renovated to provide office space for some state department offices and for store space. The Montgomery Ward & Co. store was closed more than a year ago and the property has been vacant since that time.

25 years ago, 1985

The Town of Lisbon took delivery of a new ambulance on Friday afternoon after it was checked out at the Public Works Department. The acquisition of the new $50,000 ambulance was authorized at May’s town meeting, and is the first ambulance ever purchased by the town. It was turned over to Lisbon Emergency Inc., a private nonprofit ambulance service based in Lisbon.
