WILTON — A local woman and one from Jay remained in a Lewiston hospital Tuesday after their cars collided on Route 2 at the intersection of Maxwell Road and Main Street on Monday afternoon.
Barbara Wardwell, 83, of Wilton was coming from Main Street and heading toward Jay as a car driven by Tabitha Reed, 25, of Jay was heading west on Route 2 toward East Dixfield, Wilton police Detective Richard Billian said Tuesday.
The front of both cars collided in the middle of the intersection at about 4:34 p.m. Both cars slid on the road and their rear-ends tapped each other, Billian said, before they separated and went in different directions off the road.
Wardwell and her passenger, Lauralee Bickford, 59, of Jay, and Reed were all transported to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, he said. Bickford was treated and released, a FMH spokeswoman said. Wardwell and Reed were transferred to Central Maine Medical Center.
Wardwell was listed in serious condition and Reed was listed in fair condition, a CMMC spokeswoman said Tuesday afternoon.
The factors contributing to the collision remain under investigation by the Wilton Police Department. An accident reconstruction is being conducted by Maine State Police and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
Both agencies, along with NorthStar Emergency Medical Services, assisted Wilton police at the crash scene.
