JAY – Desperation led to total domination Friday night at Taglienti Field.

Winless against two rugged opponents to start the Western Class C football season, Oak Hill couldn’t afford to spot Jay three games in the Campbell Conference standings. Never mind Winthrop or Lisbon, with whom the Raiders were mentioned as a preseason co-favorite.

Oak Hill lived up to that billing and more in a 41-7 road rout.

“We were fired up. We knew this game was big, and we were ready to go,” said Oak Hill senior running back Josh Allen. “They pretty much ran everything we worked on all week in practice.”

Allen scored four touchdowns and led the parade as the Raiders registered a rare team achievement.

Call it a triple-triple. Oak Hill put three backs over the century mark. Allen lugged 27 times for 193 yards. Cody DePuy added 105 yards and Joel Wells chalked up 104.

DePuy delivered a 40-yard touchdown. Wells went on an 85-yard scoring jaunt.

“They dominated the line of scrimmage all night,” said Jay coach Mark Bonnevie. “That was the deal. Offense and defense.”

It was a breakout game for an all-new offensive line of Caleb Provost, Nick Wells, Zach Leeman, Mike Saunders and Luke Washburn that endured its ups-and-downs in losses to Lisbon and Yarmouth.

Tight end Cody Provost, who caught a 38-yard pass from Cam Morin to set up Oak Hill’s second touchdown, joins Allen as the only veterans on the Oak Hill offense.

“Everyone else is brand new. They’ve come a long way,” said Oak Hill coach Dave Wing. “We couldn’t afford to go 0-3.”

The Provosts, Leeman and Nick Cody each registered a quarterback sack for Oak Hill, which limited Jay to a net three yards rushing and topped the Tigers 442 to 70 in total yardage.

Oak Hill scored on its second series after a bad snap led to a short Jay punt and put the Raiders in position at the Tigers’ 36.

Allen and DePuy split six carries evenly on the drive, with Allen scoring from 5 yards out.

The Raiders went up 13-0 after Morin’s completion to Provost led to a 7-yard Allen TD.

Jay (2-1) produced a glimmer of hope in the final 57 seconds of the half, racing 73 yards to its only touchdown.

Zach Bonnevie completed consecutive passes to Kyle Storer, Jake Bessey and Jordan D. Couture, followed by a pair of pass interference flags against Oak Hill.

A false start on first-and-goal backed the Tigers to the 12. Bonnevie’s subsequent strike to Storer split two defenders and gave the 6-foot-4 senior tight end the chance to make a diving catch with three ticks left.

Andrew Stearns’ extra point made it 13-7 at the half.

“I told them at halftime that we let ’em off the hook, and now we’ve got to punch it in,” Wing said.

Oak Hill did that with authority, handing the ball to Allen eight straight times.

With the last carry in the sequence, Allen broke two tackles at the line of scrimmage and slashed through the middle for a 42-yard TD on third-and-3.

“The line stepped up a lot today,” Nick Wells said. “We finally clicked as a team, I think. We just kept pushing.”

Allen agreed, adding, “that was the best pass blocking and run blocking we’ve done since I’ve been in high school.”

Craig Morrill’s interception stopped Jay’s ensuing drive deep in Raiders territory, and the Tigers never threatened again.

Three of Oak Hill’s next four drives ended in touchdowns.

“It’s a good team. I’ve been trying to tell everybody all week, yes, they were 0-2, but they played two pretty good teams,” Coach Bonnevie said.. “I knew they weren’t going to stay that way forever. Allen’s good.”
