DEAR SUN SPOTS: Please remind your readers that they’re invited to the monthly bean supper at the Danville Junction Grange No. 65, 15 Grange St. in Auburn, on Saturday, March 2.
The buffet-style supper is served at 5 p.m. and includes three kinds of baked beans, chili, cornbread casserole, potato casserole, American chop suey, tuna noodle casserole, clam casserole, spaghetti, shepherd’s pie, coleslaw, Harvard beets and homemade brown bread, coffee and punch, and a varied selection of homemade pies. There is also baked salt pork for those of us who enjoy those tasty tidbits.
Tickets are $8. If you purchase raffle tickets, you could be going home with a dozen fresh eggs from a Grange member’s chickens or homemade fudge.
The supper, on the first Saturday of every month, is a decades-old tradition as well as an important fundraiser for the Danville Grange, whose members are struggling to maintain the historic grange hall with a lengthy list of repair projects, including painting, plastering, floor refinishing, landscaping and roof repair.
Danville Junction Grange has been giving to the community since its very beginning around 1875 and continues to do so today. These days we are reaching out to the community for help by asking for much-needed donations of materials, time and energy, and financial support.
We hope to see some new faces Saturday.

ANSWER: It’s a harsh reality here in Maine that there are children going hungry. Do what you can to support this program and others like it. Please spread the word, help those in need, and remember who came to your aid during the times when you needed a hand up. As I’ve said so many times before, a small act of kindness can be such a gift — it can even turn someone’s life around. Thank you to everyone involved in this program!
