DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’ve always looked forward to watching the high school basketball tournaments on Channel 10 during February break. Are they on this year?

— Stéphane, Jay

ANSWER: Yes! Maine Public Television is celebrating its 40th year of covering high school basketball championship games on March 1, 2 and 3 — a bit later in the winter than you are remembering. All 10 state championship games will be broadcast on Channel 10 and streamed live on mainepublic.org.

You can enjoy the games live on March 1 and 2; watch repeat broadcasts on March 2 and 3; or watch anytime on-demand as teams compete for the boys and girls AA, A, B, C and D championship gold balls. Enjoy! Here’s the schedule:

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I wash and repurpose used makeup brushes for art projects and cleaning tiny crevasses, etc. but then someone told me there’s an organization that uses these small brushes to care for rescued wildlife. Can you fill us in?

ANSWER: Two nonprofits have put out information on social media asking people to donate their mascara wands. Before sending them along, wash the wands in Dawn dish soap and place them in a Ziploc bag. These little wands are then used to clean away oil, larvae, fly eggs, mites, infections, mud and other contaminants from little critters. They also work well in treating wounds.

You can mail the clean mascara wands along with the online form to: Appalachian Wildlife Refuge (https://www.appalachianwild.org/wands-for-wildlife.html), P.O. Box 1211, Skyland, North Carolina 28776 or to Wildlife Wands (https://www.facebook.com/wildlifewands/), P.O. Box 1586, Southwick, Massachusetts 01077. These organizations ask that you send used mascara wands only. Do not buy new ones as it defeats the purpose of recycling!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Many thanks for your kind words regarding The Corn Shop Trading Co. We have had phone calls and folks coming in telling us they’ve “always meant to stop.” Sun Spots gave them the little nudge they needed! People have also stopped me in the grocery store and yoga class to comment on your endorsement! We are most grateful. You’re a most listened to and respected individual!

— Pam & Mark, Bridgton

ANSWER: All in a day’s work! It delights me to connect readers to what they need. Walking into The Corn Shop always makes me very happy so why wouldn’t I want to spread the word? Keep up the good work!
