BRIDGTON — An Auburn woman suffered a broken leg when she crashed her snowmobile into a pressure ridge, according to the Maine Warden Service.

Cpl. John MacDonald said that Karissa Baldinelli, 25, was driving on a trail on Long Lake in Bridgton when she truck a pressure ridge “at approximately 60 mph.”

Baldinelli’s snowmobile traveled about 120 feet through the air before coming to a rest, MacDonald said. She was wearing a helmet, he said.

She was taken to Bridgton Hospital by United Ambulance.

Baldinelli’s 2005 Polaris Edge received no damage in the accident.

MacDonald urged snowmobile riders to slow down.

“The leading contributing factor in snowmobile-related crashes remains excessive speed,” MacDonald said. “Riders must leave appropriate time and distances while riding to negotiate other riders, trail intersections and turns, as well as obstacles.”

The Bridgton crash was one of two accidents Friday. MacDonald said that a Massachusetts man remained in critical condition Saturday after colliding with another snowmobile rider in Stacyville.

The crashes were the seventh and eighth accidents in the past week involving snowmobiles.
