LEWISTON — Assistant Professor of Theater Tim Dugan will direct the Bates College production of Jackie Sibblies Drury’s “We Are Proud to Present …” at the Gannett Theater, Pettigrew Hall, 305 College St.

The production is an unusual, complex and darkly comedic depiction of actors trying to develop a play about an early 20th-century genocide. As the group wrestles with this remote story, their exploration hits much closer to home than anyone ever expected.

The full title of this show is “We Are Proud to Present a Presentation About the Herero of Namibia, Formerly Known as South West Africa, From the German Suedwestafrika, Between the Years 1884-1915.”

There will be six performances: 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 7; 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 8; 5 p.m. Saturday, March 9; 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sunday, March 10; and 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 11.
