HARRISON — Students in grades three through six at The Boxberry School have been studying the history of the town, which includes Finnish settlers.
Recently, Dale Piirainen, president of the Finnish American Heritage Society of Maine, talked to students about Finnish culture. He brought tin droppings, melted tin sculptures whose shadow predicts the year ahead. There was also a handmade wooden whisk and a classic Finnish shoe.
Students were able to hold the items, ask questions and take notes for their project.
