FARMINGTON — A 10-year-old boy was charged with terrorizing Thursday, accused of calling 911 and reporting a bomb on a bus.
School buses in Farmington-based Regional School Unit 9 were examined by police after the bomb threat was received at about 4:30 p.m.
“It was very vague,” Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols said. “It was a call about a bomb on a bus.”
All buses were parked and students safely removed, school officials said. All buses, including a bus at an athletic event, were searched by bomb-sniffing dogs.
RSU 9 officials canceled after-school activities and parents were notified to pick up students from activities. All buildings were evacuated as an extra measure of safety, school officials said.
RSU 9 Superintendent Tina Meserve issued a press release Thursday night announcing a boy had been charged.
“We have confirmed that the threat was a hoax and called in by a 10-year-old elementary school student,” she wrote.
The student has been charged with terrorizing, Meserve wrote, and will be referred to the juvenile community corrections officer.
School will be in session as usual Friday, according to Meserve.
