AREA—For more than two decades, the Oxford Hills Area Association of Churches has bound together several different churches in Oxford Hills for the greater good of feeding people in the area.

Organized in 1991, OHAAC has had three main objectives in mind; promoting better understanding among churches involved, studying the common mission of area churches, and maintaining a program to serve people in the area. The Norway Unitarian church has been the home base for the OHAAC.

The Community Lunch program was organized in March of 1992, and is staffed by volunteers from local churches. The lunch program serves more than 7,000 meals each year, with food donations coming from the Good Shepherd Food Bank and Hannaford’s supermarket in Oxford.

This year, one of the founding members of the free Wednesday hot lunch program in Norway, Lee Millett, will be resigning from many of his duties.

Millett was treasurer for the hot lunch program for many years and has on numerous occasions picked up food at the Good Shepherd Food Bank for lunches.

“He’s a remarkable guy,” OHAAC member Marilyn Crowley said about Millett. “He’s thrown so much into this.”

Crowley also said that anyone in a rush who wishes to partake in the lunches is allowed to take two food items with them.

OHAAC delegates meet quarterly on the second Wednesday of Feb., May, Sept., and Nov. Their next quarterly meeting will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 1 p.m., with lunch starting at 11:30 a.m. The lunches are open to the public.
