FARMINGTON — A local man and a Jay man were indicted Wednesday in separate cases involving incidents at the Walmart parking lot on Dec. 16, 2018.
Joshua J. Norton, 39, of Farmington was indicted on four counts of reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon-motor vehicle, and one count each of domestic violence stalking, aggravated criminal mischief and violation of a protection order. He was also indicted on misdemeanor charges of failure to stop for an officer and driving to endanger.
Norton is accused of ramming his ex-girlfriend’s vehicle several times after a verbal confrontation with her, according to Farmington police. Police tried to stop Norton’s minivan as he drove around the lot. He lost control of it and ran into a snowbank, surrendering to police without incident.
In a second case, Andrew C. Deering, 31, of Jay was indicted on felony charges of terrorizing with a dangerous weapon and reckless conduct with a firearm. He was also indicted on a misdemeanor charge of unlawful possession of a scheduled drug.
Deering is accused of pointing a handgun at a woman in the parking lot, Farmington police previously said. He was arrested as he left the store.
Deering, who was a passenger in a vehicle, appeared to be intoxicated, police previously said. He also had prescription drugs that didn’t belong to him, police said. A gun was found, according to police.
A conviction for reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison, while convictions for domestic violence stalking, aggravated criminal mischief and violation of a protection order carry penalties of up to five years in prison. Convictions on the misdemeanor charges are punishable by a maximum of between 364 days and six months in jail.
