Robert Remington taught and coached at Telstar for 36 years. His first novel, “Tyler Reese,” was recently released and he spoke to Valerie Forman’s 12th-grade English class Nov. 20 about the process of writing the novel and his dislike for reading and writing while he was in high school. He urged students to continue to read and write, even though they may not enjoy what they are doing at the time. The students read “Tyler Reese,” wrote a biographical summary of the author, and completed projects based on the novel, including mapping out three local locations they recognized that are mentioned in the book. Remington answered dozens of questions from the seniors, who asked questions about the book, which is set in the western Maine mountains. It centers on the life of a young, awkward high school student. The students also wanted to know if a sequel would be forthcoming and offered the new author several different possible plots for the next book.
