FARMINGTON — University of Maine at Farmington men’s basketball coach Dick Meader likes what he sees and his confidence is high for a team packed with veterans.
He added that there will be no major strategy changes on offense.
“Defensively, we will see how it plays out, but a lot of the same philosophy going into it,” Meader said. “I think we are a pretty good offensive team. We are veterans now. Good leadership. Guys that want to win and sacrifice to do so.”
Meader will be turning to seasoned players like 6-foot-3 junior Billy Ruby (13.6 points per game last season), 6-3 forward Riley Robinson (15.5 ppg), 6-foot junior guard Amir Moss (10.1 ppg), 6-foot junior guard Isaac Witham (12.2 ppg) and 6-5 junior center Anthony Owens.
“It is a large junior class with senior leadership,” Meader said.
That’s why Meader and the rest of the Beavers are thinking North Atlantic Conference championship and look forward to topping heir season with a trip to the NCAAs.
“Our goal is obviously to win as many as we can,” Meader said. “Winning the conference championship is always a goal. It is a realistic opportunity to do that.
“Great group of guys who work hard. Everybody is competing and we look for a good year.”
The UMF Beavers open their season at home against the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Tuesday, Nov. 13.
