FARMINGTON — A  New York man pleaded guilty Monday to selling crack cocaine from a Jay apartment and was sentenced to four years in prison, according to court documents.

Darnell Smith, 21, of the Bronx also faced a charge of aggravated drug trafficking, which was dismissed.

A conviction on the cocaine trafficking charge is punishable by up to 30 years in prison. 

Smith and co-defendant Angie Braley, 38, of Jay were arrested July 30 after police and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency received information about drugs being sold from an apartment at 446 Main St. in Jay.

Police and agents searched the apartment and found 121.2 grams of suspected heroin and 85.2 grams of suspected crack cocaine, according to a drug agent’s affidavit filed with a Farmington court. 

The street value of the drugs was $45,000, according to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Braley, who faces the same two charges Smith faced and an additional charge of violation of condition of release related to another case, is expected to go on trial in December.
