NEWCASTLE — Isabell Laughton scored two goals to lead the Buckfield girls’ soccer team to a 3-2 Class D South quarterfinal overtime win over Temple Academy on Wednesday.
The Bucks will next play Richmond in the D South semifinals.
No. 5 Buckfield improves to 9-5-1 while fourth-ranked Temple finishes at 11-3-1.
Cape Elizabeth 3, Gray-New Gloucester 0
CAPE ELIZABETH — Karli Chapin scored twice and Tori McGrath had a goal and an assist as the top-seeded Capers (15-0) beat the ninth-seeded Patriots (9-7) in a Class B South girls’ soccer quarterfinal on Wednesday.
Olivia Cochran and Riley Dall each recorded an assist for Cape, which hosts No. 4 Yarmouth on Saturday.
Chelsea Davis finished with 10 saves for Gray-New Gloucester.
Traip 6, Winthrop 1
KITTERY — The second-seeded Rangers (14-1) raced to a 4-1 halftime lead and cruised past the seventh-seeded Ramblers (10-5-1) in a Class C South quarterfinal on Wednesday.
Molly Sawtelle scored in each half. Traip also got first-half goals from Sidney Auclair, Isabelle Woollacott and Kathleen McPherson. Caroline Couperthwait set up McPherson’s goal, then scored the final goal.
Aaliyah WilsonFalcone scored the goal for Winthrop. Brooke Burnham made eight saves.
Boys’ soccer
Freeport 5, Leavitt 0
FREEPORT — Jesse Bennell recorded three goals in the first half, and the second-seeded Falcons (10-3-2) defeated the seventh-seeded Hornets (5-7-4) in a Class B South quarterfinal Wednesday.
Shea Wagner added two goals for Freeport, which advances to host third-seeded Greely (8-5-2) on Saturday in Freeport.
College field hockey
Colby 1, Bates 0
LEWISTON — Emily Hogan scored 12:04 into the game off a turnover and the Mules (9-6, 4-6 NESCAC) held on to beat the Bobcats (6-9, 2-8) at Campus Ave. Field.
The victory advances Colby to the NESCAC playoffs, while Bates’ loss eliminates it from postseason contention.
Riley Whitmyer finished with two saves for Colby.
Ellie Bauer had one for Bates.
